About the Artist
After a career in nursing I have concentrated on learning more about art, which has long been an interest and a means of expressing my ideas and feelings about the world around me. My concern is about the cause and effect of our modern ‘must have’ society and outlook, the rise in population of those who want to join it, and the resulting increasing demand for airports, roads, housing as well as consumer goods. Economic concerns are valued above love of the land and heritage passed down from forefathers who worked on the land and the sea for future generations. The rise in greenhouse gasses partly caused by the waste we generate, leads to rising sea levels and global warming. The coastal erosion caused by this has been a subject of my practice, which I have described by print and drawing.
Recent work has been about the interface between sea and land, the sense of wide open spaces, freedom, yet, safety. I enjoy the printmaking process used to express this.
