About the Artist
Artist Claire Norton is a painter and a printmaker fascinated by the human body; by its appearance, physiology, form and function. Inspired by her background as a keen sportswoman and as a sports massage therapist, and through the experiences of her father, who had the rare endocrine condition acromegaly, the focus of much of her work is to explore the nature of depiction and what lies beneath.
Our bodies embody so much: energy; sensuality; physicality; spontaneity; sensitivity; the visceral; and the subdued, to name a few, and she explores these in her work. Frequently using photographic imagery as a source from which to develop her ideas, Claire enjoys exploring the ambiguous nature of familiar forms, using relative scale, cropping and layering to abstract every day representations.
