About the Artist
Anthony Broad’s practice explores contemporary representations of masculinity.
The figures at the heart of the work are avatars expressing anger, hope, joy, loss
and sometimes tenderness.
New work is investigating the projected self-images written into personal contact ads.
Exposing and exploring the fact that these ads generate two distinct personalities,
independently created by the reader and the writer.
A recent departure is the use of his newly developed technique using powdered graphite,
embossed with a woodcut plate. This results in a polished almost metallic looking surface,
an exciting combination of printing and the very stuff of drawing.
