Janet Milner – featured artist

Janet Milner is a contemporary artist and printmaker and  has been a PMC member since 2014, she lives in Rye, East Sussex. Over the years Janet has made prints at Artichoke Print Studio and London Print Studio, she now works from her studio in Rye.

Printmaking has been a key and consistent presence in her work throughout her art career which spans more than 40 years. Janet has a BA in Printed Textiles from Liverpool Polytechnic and more recently an MA in Printmaking from Camberwell UAL.

“Printmaking for me”..she says “I love not knowing what it’s going to turn out like..the accidents are the best, that’s when the magic happens,..It’s extremely addictive’.

Subject matter:

A joke, a gesture, a thought, a memory, Janet presents them as thrown down remarks.

She draws on the everyday things that surround her, herself, family, pets, feelings, memories, to create artworks that are playful and intriguing conversation pieces.

Process

Prefers more accessible painterly printmaking techniques that require no acid or technology..monotypes, woodcuts and drypoint.

Janet enjoys the immediacy and expressive freedom that working with monotypes has. Over the last 10 years she has focussed on developing techniques for making watercolour monotypes.
