Nigel Milner – Featured Artist

Nigel Milner’s printmaking practice began at Maidstone Art College and he has greatly enjoyed renewing it over recent years at London’s Art Academy and the City Lit.  His inspiration lies in drawing from life, from memory and from a photo archive.

He often works on cityscapes to reflect the continual change and renewal around us. Images from many sources are mixed, as a blend of past and present, night and day, along with narratives, signs, and graffiti.

Milner has used many printmaking techniques including screen prints, aquatint etching, collage, etched lino and relief prints. He finds mixing methods and sources an effective way to explore a composition.

For screen prints Milner uses digital tools to expand and manipulate imagery, combining these with experimental printmaking techniques and materials. He works with layers of colour, to be applied in turn either with paper stencils or onto acetate before exposing it onto the coated screen.

Recently 2 of his prints were shown at the Bankside Gallery’s ‘Small but Mighty’ exhibition.
