Theresa Pateman – Featured Artist

After studying art at Thurrock, and Coventry School of Art & Design, Theresa worked as a Free-lance Illustrator using Linocut and Monoprint, editioning for artists, and learning about etching techniques. Together with a group of fellow graduates, they were awarded a Prince’s Trust Grant to set up a Screen-Printing Workshop. She finally established her own etching studios in Kingsgate Workshops, Kilburn.

Theresa currently teaches printmaking at Hampstead School of Art, & in her studio, belongs to Southbank Printmakers artists-run gallery, and The Printmakers Council.  Exhibiting throughout the UK, including the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries: “Originals” & “Bite” and the Barbican, her work features in collections at the V&A, Metropolitan University, Scarborough Art Gallery Archive and worldwide.  Influenced by frequent visits to the Pembrokeshire Coast, Theresa also works from a studio in Haverfordwest.

The Beach scene Prints:
The intention is to reflect daydreams; to be transported to a much-desired paradise. “Beach Bodies” is taken from a scene in Broadhaven, and “Beach Buddies” from Tenby, amongst the many unspoilt beauty spots in South Wales.

Selkies:
Water patterns and sandy textures are a current feature in her prints, but above all escape into the imagined underwater worlds.

“Underwater Selkies” Etching £300

Printmaking:
Although she had always loved trying different print techniques in art college, Theresa starting making prints in earnest through Lino cutting; creating illustrations in magazines, and came to etching later at Morley College. She started edtioning for other printmakers, learning the various techniques through working with them, trial and error, and the “joys” of experimentation. Finally, becoming a printmaking tutor has embedded in her a love of learning, and passing on the many methods of creating images through print.

Future Shows:

Theresa will be exhibiting a print in the Society of Women Artists 163rd Annual Exhibition 25th-29th June at the Mall Galleries.

She is currently organising a show called “Pocket Pictures” at Cass Art in Hampstead with the Islington Art Society. Small pictures from some of the 250 members of IAS. Percentage of sales to Islington Mind.

Pembrokeshire, West Wales:

Theresa is in the process of organising an open studios/show in Haverfordwest in July, then part of a Print Circle Show in August.
