Batik Design

Within his creative process the knowledge of various traditional printing making methods is combined with the use of computer software. There is an element of cross referencing and point of convergence. He has have moved away from traditional genre, working beyond conventional procedures. Using content and colour in an inspirational manner. Embracing revision change and transformation.

‘Spinning’

Micheal’s method is to combine in a single composition pictorial ingredient from various sources such as drawings, illustrations, prints or photographic images.
This initial preparation work is scanned into a computer. The different images are then manipulated and overlaid on screen with other visual elements added to produce a structured composition.

At different stages of the creative process he will print off the images as ideas are developing before the final colours and tone values are introduced to create the finished composition. The printing process involves using ultrachrome pigment inks onto etching rag paper.

It is by using the computer software with its unique ability and accuracy that enables him to interpret and create from my preparation work multiple digital prints of high quality.
